Danjoo Koorliny's Women's Forum in Bunbury 2024

Celebrating Community Leadership and Resilience in the South West

Danjoo Koorliny was honoured to partner with the South West Aboriginal Women’s Collective for a powerful event inspiring community connection and cultural celebration featuring special guest Courtney Ugle. Held at the Mantra Lighthouse in Bunbury, this event brought together leaders, Elders, and community members to discuss critical issues facing Aboriginal women and families in the region, with a particular focus on domestic violence and its long-lasting impact.

Our involvement in this event continued the deep engagement we have been fostering in the region through a series of pre-event workshops. These workshops provided a platform for women from Bunbury and surrounding areas to voice their concerns, share their stories, and collaborate on actionable steps toward creating social change. The insights gained from these discussions were pivotal in shaping the content and spirit of the evening gala dinner event.

The highlight of the evening event was a powerful address by special guest Courtney Ugle, who shared her deeply personal story of resilience and hope. She highlighted the importance of returning to Country and the strength that comes from community support. Courtney's narrative reminded everyone in the room of the importance of leadership, not just in moments of crisis but in everyday efforts to uplift and support one another.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees wanting more events that bring the community together meaningfully. This event's success has only strengthened our resolve to continue these vital conversations and actions as we work together toward a future honouring Aboriginal women's wisdom and leadership.

Looking ahead, we are excited to build on the momentum from this event as we prepare for the Djeran Festival in 2025. The South West Aboriginal Women’s Collective will play a key role in this festival, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to elevate Aboriginal voices and culture.

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported this event. Your dedication and passion make Danjoo Koorliny’s vision for 2029 not just a possibility but a reality. Together, we are walking this journey toward a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
